Michael Keaton Analyzes His Performance in 2019 Disney Remake: ‘I Sucked’



After 27 years of marriage Michael Keaton and Tim Burton to Batman ReturnsThe duo reunited in 2019 to reimagine the Disney classic, dumboNow, before the movie premiere, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – Which brings them together again – Keaton thinks about a Disney outing, Declaring it “bad”. Keaton portrayed VA Vandevere in dumboa cruel amusement park owner who seeks to exploit everyone's favorite elephant for his own gain. The film received mixed reviews from critics, and eventually grossed $353 million at the worldwide box office against a $170 million budget. It thus failed to meet the estimated $500 million it needed to break even.




In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Keaton took some time to analyze his performance in dumbo, He admitted that it wasn't his best.He says he still feels bad to this day, feeling like he let Burton down in the production because of their good relationship. You can read his comments below.

“I love working with Tim a lot, but I don't think we've ever really analyzed why we work so well together; we just do.
I think I let him down in one movie.
But that's just me, and it bothers me to this day. I didn't know anything about this.

With only a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and a 48% rating from audiences, it's clear that people weren't very receptive to Burton's opinion. dumbowith some people like Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian describing it as “Full of retro-futuristic boredom.” Oh my! And while the Disney film may have failed on several levels, and nearly ended Burton's career, the director says he wasn't disappointed in his star's performance at all. In the same interview with EW following Keaton's comments, he said:

“I don't even know what you're talking about. But whatever.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice The film premieres at the 81st Venice International Film Festival today, so we’re yet to find out whether it actually outdoes Burton’s original, or whether Keaton’s concerns were justified.
