Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling, Ana Navarro and Tony Goldwyn are set to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which will take place from August 19-22.
The Democratic National Convention will host a slew of celebrities, including a “Scandal” reunion with Washington and Goldwyn. Each host will serve as master of ceremonies on one of the four nights of the convention, opening the evening with remarks and making periodic appearances to help guide the event. This news was first reported by CNN.
Goldwyn will open the Democratic National Convention on Monday, followed by Navarro on Tuesday, Kaling on Wednesday, and Washington on the final night. Thursday night will also be the night Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepts the Democratic presidential nomination.
Washington is a longtime political activist and veteran of the Democratic National Convention. She first joined the convention in 2012 when she spoke in support of former President Barack Obama’s reelection. She also opened the third night of the Democratic National Convention in 2020 when President Joe Biden ran against then-President Donald Trump. She is also the founder of the political activism organization Influence Change, which works with celebrities to promote civic activism.
In 2019, Kaling appeared on Harris's YouTube channel where she and the then-senator made masala dosa and talked about their Indian heritage. The video has since resurfaced after Trump shared it on his Truth Social platform, questioning Harris' racial identity.
Although a Republican, Navarro has voted Democratic since Donald Trump entered politics. The first time she voted Democratic was in 2016 when Trump ran against Hillary Clinton.
Like his co-star in Washington's “Scandal,” Goldwyn is a political activist. In 2016, he supported Clinton's campaign and appeared at a reproductive rights event and a campaign rally for President Joe Biden before dropping out of the race.
