And it has begun. We got a first look at Mortal Kombat 2directly from one of the creators. According to a report from ComicBook, Ed Boon It gave fans their first look at the upcoming sequel to the hit 2021 live-action adaptation of the classic video game. The image, shared on Boon's social media, offers a partial glimpse of Princess Kitana, one of the fan-favorite main characters from the game, who makes her first appearance in the sequel.
In a post on X (Formerly Twitter) Boone claimed to have taken the photo on producer Todd Garner's phone, while screening the early version of the film. Boone also jokingly referred to the dozens of video game leaks he has had to endure over the years, saying, “I can leak stuff too.”
We never get a look at Kitana's face, but we do know that Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) plays the character. Although the character's appearance in the video games has changed over the years, Kitana's costume appears to be an accurate representation of the outfit in the original games. We also get a good look at Kitana's intricately detailed steel fans, her signature weapon in the games.
The release of the image comes just days after the San Diego Comic-Con, where actor Lewis Tan was in attendance to discuss the upcoming film. However, no trailer for the film was released, much to the dismay of fans. Boone’s release of the image so soon after the San Diego Comic-Con may be a response to the disappointment of fans who were hoping for something to be revealed from San Diego.
