It appears that Lauryn Hill and The Fugees have decided to cancel the next leg of their “Miseducation Anniversary Tour,” which officially kicked off last year.
While the musicians have not announced any details about the tour, which is set to kick off Friday in Tampa, Florida, the tour dates have been removed from Ticketmaster and Live Nation. Additionally, many fans received cancellation and refund notices as of Tuesday night.
On social media, ticket holders posted screenshots of a message they received from Live Nation, which read: “Your event has been cancelled. Your money will be refunded to your account shortly.” The cancellation appears to include all 18 US tour dates, including stops in Philadelphia, Dallas and Los Angeles, where the band was scheduled to play at the Hollywood Bowl on September 17.
Tickets are currently on sale for the UK and European tour, which kicks off in Manchester, England on October 12 and concludes in Amsterdam on October 22.
Hill and the Fugees embarked on the “Miseducation Anniversary Tour” last year to coincide with the actual 25th anniversary of Hill’s iconic 1998 solo album. Ahead of the tour, the Fugees reunited for Roots Picnic in June 2023, marking the first time the trio — Hill, Wyclef Jean and Brass Michel — have performed together since a one-off concert in New York City in 2021.
Hill's reunion tour with the Fugees was initially announced for 2021 before being postponed and eventually cancelled in January 2022 with COVID concerns cited as the reason. The dates were eventually rescheduled as a tour last year, though it eventually suffered a handful of cancellations after Hill suffered vocal strain. She later took a break from the road entirely, explaining to fans, “In order to prevent any long-term negative impact on my voice and body, I need to take time off to allow for a true vocal recovery so I can be off medication completely.”
Hill has since returned to the road this year, playing a number of shows in the Middle East, as well as Jamaica, Europe, Canada and Las Vegas, and in May, she and YG Marley performed on tonight's show, The duo are set to take the stage together again at the BET Awards on June 30.
Fans expressed their dismay at the cancellation of the concerts on social media, with one person writing on X: “It’s so frustrating to be a Lauryn Hill fan. Last October, an hour before the show in Dallas, the show was cancelled with no warning. I tried again for this show even though everyone made fun of me and said I was an idiot for trying. The show was cancelled again. I love Lauryn man. But you need to do better.”
Hill has yet to address the tour cancellation. In November, she spoke about her repeated lateness to the stage during a concert in Los Angeles, saying, “You say she's late. She's late a lot. How lucky I am to be able to be on this stage every night.”
“I don’t do it because they let me. I do it because I’m standing here in God’s name and doing it. God is the one who allows me to do it, who has surrounded me with family and community when there wasn’t any support,” Hill told the Los Angeles audience, adding that the music itself is a major factor in her relationship with live performance. “When [The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill] “I sold so many records, and no one came up to me and said, ‘Hey, do you want to make another album?’ So I traveled around the world, playing the same album over and over again. Because we’re survivors, and we’re not just survivors, we’re thriving.”
