Mubi and Chanel Partner to Showcase Films From Next Prize Winners

Art film distributor, signage and streaming producer Mubi has partnered with luxury fashion house Chanel to present a selection of films for the Chanel Next Prize winners. Launched in 2021, the dual award honors 10 artists working across art, film, performance and music, each receiving €100,000 ($111,000) to help advance their practice and realize their most ambitious works.

The newly announced Next Prize Collection, curated by Mubi, will feature seven films from the 2022 and 2024 winners of the prize, all of which will be available to stream on Mubi starting September 1.

Films include Kantemir Balagov’s “Beanpole” (the next winner in 2024), Fox May’s “Guts and Glitz” (2024), Rungano Nyoni’s “I Am Not a Witch” (2022), Ho Tzu Nyoni’s “Here” (2024), Eduardo Williams’ “The Human Surge” (2022), Sam Eng’s “Skate Story: Shortplay Depth I” (2024), and Cyrus Moussavi’s 15-minute music video to accompany Moor Mother’s “Jazz Codes” album (2024).

“The launch of the Next Prize Collection, a collaboration between Chanel and Mobi, is a celebration of artists who have demonstrated creative audacity and innovation in filmmaking,” said Yana Bell, Chanel’s Global President of Arts & Culture. “Each of them is a winner of the Chanel Next Prize, awarded every two years to visionaries who define the future of contemporary culture through visual arts, film, design, music, dance and games.”

“It is exciting to see these new voices in film being highlighted on Mubi, in a shared commitment to showcasing truly great cinema with Chanel,” added Bell.

The next award is a program from the Chanel Cultural Fund. The jury so far includes Tilda Swinton, artist Cao Fei, and moderators Legacy Russell and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
