“Embracing violence and sex at the same time gives us an honest portrayal of the potential brutality and injustice of the era. This is a big draw of the animated show, and the intensity of these moments is interesting when you consider how well written the revenge story is. There is certainly a sense of liberation in seeing Mizuo beat up all the enemies, but the buildup ensures that these are not just empty flashes of violence.”
