Not only is “Hot Ones” one of the most-watched shows on YouTube, but it’s also become a popular stop on celebrity press tours, attracting A-listers from Jennifer Lawrence to Paul Rudd and Margot Robbie. Recent episodes have featured Vince Vaughn, Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
If “Hot Ones,” which currently streams on Hulu, does air on Netflix in this new format, it will join the streaming service’s expanding library of live content, including sporting events like golf, tennis and boxing; a hot dog eating contest; and comedy specials from the likes of Chris Rock and Joe Rogan. Live streaming events have been hit and miss in terms of audience engagement, but they’ve recently found success with the off-beat talk show “Everybody’s in LA,” hosted by John Mulaney. Netflix will also soon add live wrestling programming, as well as NFL games.
Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw broke the news of the negotiations.
