“I think there was something about the movie as a whole that I found compelling. I realized that even though I liked the character, I was more interested in the movie as a whole. And of course, for the two years, I was sitting there saying, ‘Well, if

“A movie, that’s the way I would have done it. But it’s not like that, so it’s not my decision.” I was very excited about the idea of taking this script that I loved so much and shaping it the way I saw it.

After pitching the idea, Kendrick found herself sitting in the director's chair “more terrified” than she'd ever been about anything. But the effort paid off. Woman of the hour The film premiered at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, and was quickly snapped up by Netflix, becoming the festival's first major sale. Alcala, who appeared on dating game Despite being a convicted sex offender, he was later sentenced to death for multiple murders. Despite choosing Alcala as her potential date, Bradshaw never went out with him, finding him “too creepy.” Her instincts were clearly right. While Alcala has been linked to eight murders, the exact number of his victims is unknown, and could be as high as 130.
