Sporty lamb chops With his guitar slung over his shoulder, actor and comedian Nick Offerman performed his original song at a fundraiser for Kamala Harris on Monday night. The event, which was intended to raise money for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, was organized by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), Danny Zoldan (owner of Stand Up New York), producer Jamie Patricof and David Rosenberg.
At the start of his talk, host Paul Mecurio introduced Offerman, saying he was “grateful to vote for a presidential candidate in Kamala Harris, who not only goes after rapists, but who is not one.” He then turned his attention to the “Kamala-curious” Republicans listening to the show, saying he wrote the song “from the perspective of one of those Republicans who may have been blind, but now can see a clear path to decency.”
“I am a proud Kamala man,” Offerman said to the tune of “God Bless the USA,” “and I am leaving the Republican Party because I cannot stand a man who has been convicted of 34 felonies. I will stand proudly and face the facts that the men I once cheered for are a bunch of white nationalists… Well, these men are very strange.”
It is worth noting that the actor once played Parks and Recreational ResortsMayor Ron Swanson – who rolling stoneRob Sheffield once described the film as “the perfect portrayal of American masculinity bereft at the end of empire.”
“I’m proud to be on Kamala’s side, knowing that I will never see a spray-tanned tool deny a girl her racial identity,” Offerman continued. “And J.D. Vance looks like a baby’s butt under that creepy beard. So I’m going to say it loud and I’m going to sing it proudly, these guys are freaking weird.”
“From Wisconsin to Pennsylvania, from Georgia to Arizona, Michigan and Nevada, they’ll all rock with our diversity,” he sang before declaring, “She’s the president of the United States you can hug, and if she’s here, I’d like to have a beer with my future first husband Doug.”
At the song's climax, he concludes, “Trump and Vance, they don't stand a chance – these guys are so weird.”
The Zoom fundraiser on Monday featured a slew of comedians, including Ben Stiller, Tiffany Haddish, John Stamos, Margaret Cho, Ed Helms, Patton Oswalt, Keegan-Michael Key, Mark Hamill and Ken Jeong. By the end of the evening, the event had raised more than $530,000 for Harris’ campaign.
