Noomi Rapace, who serves on the Sarajevo Competition jury, visited the Variety Lounge presented by the Sarajevo Film Festival and BH Telecom to share her history with the Balkans.
Although this was her first visit to Sarajevo, Rapis grew up watching Balkan films and praised their courage and passion. She noted that the Sarajevo Film Festival “may be one of the most important film festivals because of the power of film and what art can do for people and how you can discover stories and characters and look into situations and hearts that you would never have known before.”
She recalled her role in Macedonian-Australian director Goran Stolveski's You Are Never Alone, describing how he made her feel safe despite the fact that she had completely nude scenes. She noted that Goran is “a wonderful director, very kind but with a very strong vision.”
Rapace is drawn to filmmakers and stories, no matter where they take place. She says she will bring her own truth to these stories, no matter where they take place. She loves directors who are willing to explore and delve into the world of a particular genre.
She is now in the process of preparing with another Macedonian director, Teun Mitevska. Their film, “Mother,” about a week in the life of the 38-year-old Mother Teresa, will be shot in a month.
Rapace is currently producing films and is enjoying exploring different aspects of filmmaking, and believes she is getting closer to wanting to direct.
