Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are scheduled to take the stage Tuesday evening at the United Center in Chicago, as Democrats continue to build enthusiasm for Kamala Harris' campaign.
Celebrities including Spike Lee, Wendell Pierce, Sean Astin and Eva Longoria showed up to vote on the statewide appeal earlier in the evening.
DJ Cassidy, who has performed at Obama’s birthday parties and Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s weddings, kept the party going with state-specific tracks, including Prince for the Minnesota delegation and Kendrick Lamar for California. And when Georgia was called, Lil Jon gave a short performance from the convention floor.
Ana Navarro, co-host of “The View,” was the celebrity host of the main segment of the convention. She mocked Trump for considering South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as his running mate after it emerged she had shot her dog.
“And you know what else? Kamala Harris loves dogs,” Navarro said. “And my dog Cha Cha loves them. Dogs are good judges of character, and so are cats. We can’t elect a president who doesn’t like dogs or who walks around with people who shoot dogs.”
While the appeal was underway in Chicago, Harris and her running mate Tim Walz were on stage holding a rally in Milwaukee. Once California Gov. Gavin Newsom cast the state’s votes for Harris, the convention moved to Harris in Milwaukee for a brief tribute.
Senator Bernie Sanders also addressed the crowd, receiving a standing ovation when he called for a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of the hostages.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer attempted to dance to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” as he took the stage at the Democratic National Convention. The New York Democrat warned his followers that defeating Harris in November would condemn him to “relive the dark night of Trump’s American carnage,” a reference to Trump’s 2016 inaugural address.
