Only murders in the building The series returns on August 27 for a fourth season, and ahead of its release, the stars of the critically acclaimed series are appearing on Hulu, Steve Martin, Martin Shortand Selena GomezThey discuss what it was like. To uproot the show from New York and move it to Hollywood.The episode, titled “Once Upon a Time in the West,” begins as Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are transported to the City of Lights to meet with executives at a prestigious film studio who are eager to adapt their popular true crime podcast into a feature film.
She spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the Season 4 premiere of Only murders in the buildingThe trio opened up about their experience moving the show to Los Angeles, rather than staying in New York. Gomez, who plays Mabel Maura in the series, spoke directly about her experience, saying it was “fun.”
“We have a great cast, we're going to Hollywood, and it's been fun filming here for the second time.”
Before she could explain further, Martin, who grew up in Inglewood, California and plays Charles Haden Savage, politely interrupted her with laughter to continue talking. “It was so much fun to come here to shoot. It was like a show in New York, and then we came here to shoot where I grew up. It was like shooting in the Hollywood Hills.”
In turn, he was interrupted jokingly by actor Short (Oliver Puttnam in the series), who encouraged his co-star to stop chattering. “We get the point, you like it. I have a flight in two days, so we get it.”
Only Murders in the Building continues with Season 4
It seems like every great series that has come to be considered a classic has at one time or another explored different ways to attract viewers with quirky episodes that stand out from the rest. Buffy the Vampire Slayer It is what comes to mind, as it is. Gray's AnatomyBoth of which included musical episodes that still resonate to this day. Only murders in the building This is no exception, as the first season episode “The Boy in 6B” contained only one word of dialogue reminiscent of Buffy The episode “Fragile”.
Season four will continue this trend, exploring the found footage subgenre in its sixth episode. Martin says it was filmed without a traditional camera, and was not only a fun experience, but one that jokingly fits Short's style.
“It was really fun because it was really real. There were real little cameras, iPhones, phones, hidden cameras, and it was really fun because once you got it, you got it. The less subtle, the better, which fits with Marty's style of acting.” [laughs]We had a great time filming those scenes.”
