Just days after Ian McKellen expressed interest in reprising his role as Gandalf in director Peter Jackson's new “Lord of the Rings” film series, his co-star Orlando Bloom has added his name to the list.
When asked by diverse If he were interested in returning to the Tolkien film series, the Legolas actor said, “Man, this stuff is amazing. Yeah. I don’t know how they’re going to do it. I think with AI you can do anything these days. But, if Pete [Peter Jackson] He says jumping, and I say, “How high?” I mean, it started my whole career.
The new Middle-earth films will begin in 2026 with “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” directed by Andy Serkis, who will reprise his role as Gollum/Sméagol. The original series director Jackson will produce alongside his partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The film is set to be the start of a new live-action “Lord of the Rings” film series.
“I really don't know what [they are planning]”I spoke to Andy,” Bloom added. [Serkis] “And he said they were thinking about how to do things. I said, ‘How would that work?’ And he said, ‘Well, AI!’ And I said, ‘Well, okay!’ It was a very magical time in my life, and it’s one of those things that has no downside.”
While the new Lord of the Rings films are still in development at Warner Bros., McKellen said earlier in September: “I’ve just been told that there will be more films and Gandalf in them and they hope I’ll play him. When? I don’t know. What’s the script? It hasn’t been written yet. So they better hurry up!”
