Pamela Anderson will be honored by the Zurich Film Festival, which runs from October 3 to 13. She will receive the festival's Golden Eye Award in recognition of her career achievements on October 4 before presenting “The Last Showgirl” with director Gia Coppola.
In the film, Anderson plays Shelley, a 50-year-old showgirl. When her Las Vegas show is canceled after 30 years, she faces an uncertain future and tries to repair her long-neglected relationship with her daughter, with the help of her colleague Annette, played by Jamie Lee Curtis.
“Director Gia Coppola has delivered a poignant and bittersweet tribute to a dancer at the end of her career with this nocturnal film set in Las Vegas,” the festival commented. “Pamela Anderson gives a moving performance in the carefully chosen lead role.”
“Pamela has put her heart and soul into Shelley’s character and captivated us from the very beginning,” said Christian Jungen, artistic director of the Zurich Film Festival. “She has completely immersed herself in her character, turned Shelley’s inner life upside down with her facial expressions and made sure we empathize with her.”
“Her performance was a masterpiece, perhaps the best of her career, and one that deserves an Oscar nomination. So we are delighted to honor Pamela Anderson, an actress many of us grew up with and who has reinvented herself time and time again, at the Zurich Film Festival,” he added.
The Last Showgirl screenplay was written by Kate Gersten, and the cast also includes Kiernan Shipka, Billie Lourd, Dave Bautista, and Brenda Song.
CAA, Goodfellas and Utopia hold the film rights.
