Patricia Arquette is set to play a lead role in the limited series about the Murdoch family on Hulu, diverse I have learned.
The show was first announced to be in development at Hulu in November 2022. With Arquette's casting, it has now been officially ordered to series.
According to the official description, the series “is based on the stranger-than-fiction family drama written by Maggie (Arquette) and Alex Murdough, a gripping narrative inspired by countless hours of reporting by Mandy Matney – journalist and creator of the popular Murdough Murders Podcast – as well as exclusive insider knowledge from years spent pursuing the case.”
The Murdoch family was once a powerful player in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, wielding significant legal and political influence. But for much of the past decade, the family has been accused of involvement in a variety of crimes, ranging from fraud to murder. In addition to the Murdoch Murders podcast, the family has been the subject of numerous documentary series and news specials.
Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr are the creators and executive producers of the as-yet-untitled series, with Fuller also set to executive produce. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund will executive produce under the Eat the Cat umbrella, with Matney also executive producing. UCP Studios is executive producing the series. Antosca and Eat the Cat are currently under an overall deal with UCP.
Arquette is reteaming with Eat the Cat, UCP and Hulu on the true crime series. She previously teamed with all three on the limited series “The Act,” for which Arquette won an Emmy and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her role as Dee Dee Blanchard.
Arquette has also received Emmy nominations in recent years for her roles in the Showtime series “Escape at Dannemora” (for which she also won a Golden Globe) and Apple TV+’s “Severance.” She previously won the Emmy for best actress in a drama series for her lead role in “Medium.” In film, Arquette won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for best supporting actress for “Boyhood” and has starred in films such as “True Romance,” “Bringing Out the Dead,” “Stigmata” and “Lost Highway.”
She is represented by Gersh, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Goodman Genow.
