The Perfect Couple could be renamed Attack of the Mosquitoes.
Swarms of flying insects invaded the red carpet for the premiere of Netflix's “The Perfect Couple” on Wednesday night at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
And if the hot, humid weather wasn't bad enough, the cast — including Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Meghan Fahy — suddenly found themselves swatting away mosquitoes nearly an hour away from the carpet.
“I think someone just bit me,” Schreiber said, slapping the back of his neck.
Note several errors in this. diverse “There’s a bug on your body!” Fahey said, wearing a reporter’s shirt. Turning to see mosquitoes crawling on her light blue shirt, Fahey groaned, “Oh my God! I don’t like this. I don’t like this kind of thing… We have to leave L.A.”
“They're completely out of balance,” Fahey said later, swatting the insects. “We'll swallow one of them.”
The pesky insects were also seen flying around lights placed behind the carpet. “It’s the lights, they’re attracted to the lights,” said one Netflix employee.
It seems even Hollywood's mosquitoes want their time in the spotlight.
The cart's position was reminiscent of a cockroach that made its way onto the carpet at the 2023 Met Gala in New York City. Video crews and photographers captured the cockroach crawling across the carpet before it was unceremoniously stepped on by someone stationed at the museum's front door.
“The Perfect Couple,” based on Elin Hildebrand's novel of the same name, stars Kidman as a best-selling author and matriarch of a wealthy New York City family whose perfect marriage begins to unravel when a dead body is found on their property just hours before her son's wedding at their Nantucket home.
The six-episode series, which also stars Schreiber, Fahey, Eve Hewison, Jack Reynor, Dakota Fanning, Billy Howle, Ishaan Khattar, Sam Nivola, Mia Isaacs, Donna Lynne Champlin, Michael Beach and Isabelle Adjani, premieres on Netflix on Thursday.
