The musicians performed the song at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in August.
Phoenix have teamed up with DJ Kavinsky and Belgian singer Angel to deliver a new version of “Nightcall,” which the French band recently reimagined live during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The track was originally written by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Kavinsky of Daft Punk for the film. LeadsThe song was released in 2010. The new version was produced by Phoenix and Kavinsky, and features vocals from Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars and Angel. During the Olympics Closing Ceremony broadcast, they broke the record for the most Shazams in a single day ever, reaching over one million.
Phoenix was selected to perform at the Stade de France during the Olympic Games finals. The band performed several of their hits, including “Lisztomania” and “If I Ever Feel Better”, and were later joined by French band Air for a performance of “Playground Love”. Kavinsky and Angel took the stage to perform “Nightcall” while Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend joined Phoenix for a rendition of their duet “Tonight”.
“We are so happy to have the opportunity to celebrate with all the athletes and the entire world at the closing of the Olympic Games in our beloved city of Paris,” Phoenix said in a statement following their performance. “It was an incredible moment to be invited to share the stage with our friends from France and around the world, to honor the French spirit and stay true to our motto: Liberty and Equality, Phoenix! We are thrilled to pass the baton to the Paralympic athletes and to the city of Los Angeles for the next Games in 2028.”
Phoenix's latest album, Alpha ZuluArriving in 2022. Last summer, the band and Beck released a collaboration titled “Odyssey” to coincide with their joint summer tour.
