After nearly 20 years, Princess Peach is back in the spotlight. Nintendo just dropped “Princess Peach: Showtime!” for the Nintendo Switch. This marks the first time the princess was leading her own game since the release of “Super Princess Peach” for the Nintendo DS back in 2005.
“Princess Peach: Showtime!” — which goes for $59.99 at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target — has the princess trying to save the day in a new adventure. After the Grape and the Sour Bunch attack the Sparkle Theater, Princess Peach, with the help from the fairy Stella, and her group of Toads try to defend the venue. The game has new abilities and special attacks that would make quick work of the Grape and the Sour Bunch.
As far as gameplay goes, you play as Princess Peach with various outfits and attacks — such as Swordfighter Peach, Patissier Peach, Ninja Peach, Cowgirl Peach, Kung Fu Peach, Detective Peach, Mighty Peach and others — to clear levels until you ultimately defeat Grape and the Sour Bunch.
After the surprise blockbuster success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” last spring, Nintendo has been really trying to capitalize on the movie’s characters popularity. At the end of 2023, the gaming company dropped “Super Mario Bros. Wonder,” which earned a Game of the Year nomination, and this year, Nintendo has “Princess Peach: Showtime!” to bring in more gamers into the fold.
In fact, game designers made Princess Peach look more like her big screen counterpart, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, instead of how she usually appears in games.
Available for $59.99 at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target, “Princess Peach: Showtime!” is out now. In the meantime, you can watch a overview trailer, below.
