Following recent confirmation that Jon Bernthalwill return as The Punisher in the upcoming MCU series Daredevil: Born Again, a whole host of new images offer a much better look at his comeback. Standing alongside Charlie Cox as the titular Daredevil, Bernthal is back in the skull-emblazoned body armor and covered in blood as he and the Man Without Fear once again unite to tackle crime in Hell’s Kitchen.
You can check out some of the images of Bernthal and Cox’s reunion below (via Daredevil Updates).
Bernthal can also be seen standing alone in further images, with the actor once again cutting the perfect figure as Frank Castle and looking like nothing less than the Marvel character come to life.
After much speculation and rumor, it was finally confirmed in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home that Charlie Cox’s iteration of Daredevil, and by extension the Marvel shows that were made for Netflix, are indeed now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story of Cox’s Daredevil will therefore continue in Daredevil: Born Again which, considering the groundwork has already been laid, has suffered much more behind the scenes than many expected.
Last October it came to light that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, after being left unhappy with what he’d seen from the series, had decided to tear everything down and let go of all the writers and directors who had been on board. The Punisher producer Dario Scardapane will now serve as showrunner with Loki duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as lead directors, as the series has reportedly been changed quite dramatically from what was originally intended.
Mayor Kingpin Inspiration Confirmed in More Daredevil: Born Again Images
However, while there have clearly been some big changes, further images from filming seemingly confirm that Daredevil: Born Again will still be inspired by the comic book arc Mayor Fisk, which finds New York falling to The Kingpin as he becomes the city’s newly elected mayor. The story finds Matt Murdock working for Fisk (something that has been hinted at in earlier set images), with the Kingpin of Crime his talent for spin and false philanthropy to wage a war against costumed vigilantes.
Alongside Kingpin’s war against vigilantes, Daredevil: Born Again will also see The Punisher tackling copycats and dirty cops who have appropriated his symbol.
Is Daredevil: Born Again Just an Unofficial Daredevil Season 4?
With tons of new casting updates and set photos, can Daredevil: Born Again provide anything different to the characters and story?
Alongside Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, Daredevil: Born Again will also star Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, aka Bullseye, as well as Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, and Genneya Walton.
Oh, and as a final slice of Daredevil: Born Again, a split second of footage has also now been released as part of Disney’s recent shareholders meeting…
Daredevil: Born Again
is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
