Rapp invited the singer for a surprise appearance during her set at the fest on Sunday
Reneé Rapp invited Kesha onstage during her set at Coachella on Sunday, where the duo performed Kesha’s “Tik Tok,” the song from her 2010 debut album, Animal.
“This I think is the hottest person on the Earth,” Rapp said while introducing her surprise guest. “Everybody put your fucking hands together for Kesha.”
Kesha then strutted on stage, where they met in the middle to hug before Kesha dropped the opening line to “Tik Tok”: “Wake up in the morning” — and then Rapp and Kesha screamed “like, Fuck P. Diddy” while thrusting their middle fingers in the air as they paced and danced around the stage to the cheers of the audience. (The original lyric is “feeling like P. Diddy”). The two took turns with the verses during the surprise team-up.
The change in lyric is significant given Kesha’s sexual assault claims against her former producer and label owner Dr. Luke and recent news about Sean “P. Diddy” Combs: Several people have filed civil lawsuits against Combs in recent months, which allege sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical abuse against him. Last month his homes were raided as part of a federal sex-trafficking investigation.
In 2014, Kesha filed a suit against Dr. Luke, which alleged sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. In the ensuing years, Luke denied the allegations and that same year countersued the singer, claiming she had defamed him. In 2016, a judge dismissed Kesha’s claims, largely on the grounds that they were too old. Despite several appeals, Luke’s defamation suit remained until the two parties reached a “resolution,” settling the lawsuit in June 2023.
