ZEE5 Global, the streaming platform specialising in South Asian content, has announced a huge success with its Telugu shows.
On the eve of Telugu Language Day, August 29, the platform revealed that Telugu has become one of the most consumed Indian languages by its global audience, alongside Hindi and Tamil. The Oscar-winning film ‘RRR’, along with ‘Karthikeya 2’ and ‘Hanu-Man’, have set new records as the most-watched Indian film on the platform. ‘RRR’ in particular has transcended language boundaries, becoming available to viewers across the world in multiple language options.
The platform has seen Telugu content gain traction in markets like the US, UK, Australia and Canada. Last year, Telugu viewership accounted for 25% of the total non-Indian content consumption on ZEE5 Global. The company has also seen a 10% increase in Telugu content viewership from Q1 to Q2 this year.
Other notable titles include films like ‘Gaami’ and ‘Prema Vimanam’, as well as serials like ‘Bahishkarana’, ‘Paruvu’ and ‘Maya Bazaar – For Sale’. Notably, ‘Paruvu’ emerged as the most watched non-Hindi serial this year, while ‘Hanu-Man’ took the top spot for non-Hindi films in 2024.
“At ZEE5 Global, we are committed to bringing regional languages of South Asia to global audiences, breaking the traditional barriers between local and international content. The remarkable success of Telugu titles like ‘Paruvu’, the most-watched regional web series this year, and ‘Hanu-Man’, the most-watched regional film of 2024, demonstrates the power of regional stories on the global stage. We are excited about the future and confident that Telugu and other regional content will reach new heights and further establish itself as we expand our global presence,” said Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global.
ZEE5 Global offers content in 18 Indian languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya and Bhojpuri, as well as six international languages.
