“This Court declared on July 12 that the integrity of the judicial system requires the court to dismiss Mr. Baldwin’s case with prejudice. How could it be any different with Ms. Gutierrez-Reed’s case, with this proven list of serious disclosure violations?” Gutierrez-Reed’s defense attorney Jason Bowles argued in a 23-page brief. “Justice demands that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s conviction be immediately vacated, and that the legal system no longer perpetuates this fundamental affront to our system, which has been watched around the world.”

Gutierrez-Reed received the maximum sentence for her role in Hutchins' death, with Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer saying: “You single-handedly turned a safe gun into a deadly weapon. Without you, Mrs. Hutchins would be alive, her husband would have his partner, and the little boy would have his mother.”
