Ryan Reynolds The story behind it is finally revealed. Rob McElhenneyCameo pieces in Deadpool and WolverineOnce again, to make sure that Marvel's biggest movie in years continues to get some traction at the box office this weekend, the actor addressed the controversial trailer via a lengthy Instagram post.
Although there were many concepts and ideas that did not make it into the final film, Deadpool and WolverineMcElhenney's appearance in the film was promoted by the actor himself after he filmed scenes as a TVA soldier. However, when the film was released in theaters, Reynolds was critical when his scenes failed to appear in the final cut, stating that his friend “wouldn't do him any wrong” in that way. It now appears that he was partially right, as Reynolds concluded that it was not his choice to appear in the edit. He said:
“A word about my dear friend @robmcelhenney. Rob very kindly made a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine that I hope lives on in the digital extras. During the editing of the film, they say “sometimes you have to kill the ones you love”. It was with a heavy heart (and thanks to some amazing outside intervention) that I had to kill the ones you love with this short cameo.”
Reynolds noted that the scene was not as good as expected, and the only reason the scene remained in the version for as long as it did was because of McElhenney's involvement. He continued:
“Anyway, I enjoyed making this film, but it wasn’t without its pressures. There was a lot of expectation—I’m pretty sure the best-written villain in the history of cinema is “Expectation.” And when you’re doing stressful things, you’re happy when your friends are there. And while I’m ashamed that he flew all the way to London for a cameo that wasn’t supposed to happen, I’m grateful that my friend was with me on that shoot. When I see Rob, my heart rate slows down and my nervous system stops screaming at me. He shows up for people. He shows up for me. *Even when he begs for his life before Alioth snatches his unsuspecting body out of the air, swallows him whole, and finally digests him and turns him into Alioth-Boo. Rest in peace, Tennessee soldier.”
Deadpool and Wolverine had enough brief appearances for most fans.
While it's clear that Reynolds wasn't planning to part ways with McElhenney, who co-owns British soccer team Wrexham AFC, the film is not without cameos and other Easter eggs to make up for McElhenney's absence. From Wesley Snipes to Jon Favreau and everyone in between, Deadpool and Wolverine It managed to meet the high expectations of most fans when it came to the inclusion of obscure or long-lost characters from other Marvel universes.
While Reynolds will likely ensure that the world gets to see McElhenney's brief appearance when Deadpool and Wolverine Meanwhile, fans can still see the film in theaters — without his scene — as it heads toward the end of its successful box office run. Although a release date has yet to be announced, Deadpool and Wolverine On both digital and physical media, the announcement will undoubtedly come soon.
