Every 36 minutes and 12 seconds of Short and sweet Sabrina Carpenter released her sixth album on Friday after months of anticipation following her hit singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
“I feel like there’s a thin thread running through this album, not just of self-discovery, but also of getting through the pain and the sadness that can really break you… man, it can really break you for a long time,” she told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 on Thursday. “And I feel like, even with the humor and the healthy dose of judgment in some of these songs, you were really hurting.”
The new album features a total of 12 songs, including “Taste,” “Good Graces” and “Coincidence,” which brought Carpenter into the writing room with Amy Allen and Julia Michaels. She told Rolling Stone In June, the album will include some of her most honest songs.
“I hope they find what they need to guide them through my mistakes,” Carpenter says of sharing her life experiences in music with her audience. “Because I think the more open I am about my experiences, the more other people are like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s okay for this to happen to me. It’s not the end of the world.’”
Along with Michaels and Allen, Carpenter enlisted Jack Antonoff, who produced “Please Please Please,” to perform the songs “Lie to Girls,” “Slim Pickins” and “Sharpest Tools.” The pair met outside a New York comedy club a few years ago, and Carpenter said she “wanted to work with him all her life.”
