Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short n’ Sweet’ Debuts at No. 1

Sabrina Carpenter's “Short n' Sweet” has won the race to the top spot on the Billboard 200, beating out stiff competition from Travis Scott and his 2014 mixtape “Days Before Rodeo” by less than a thousand units.

The collection opened as Carpenter's highest-charting effort of her career—her first to reach the Top 20 of the albums chart—and the third-biggest debut of the year. With the album available across multiple physical formats, the album sold 184,000 units (her biggest sales week ever and the fifth-biggest sales debut of 2024), with the 12-song LP streamed 233 million times. It is the No. 1 album on both the streaming chart and the vinyl sales chart (vinyl sales totaled 105,000—the second-biggest sales week of the year for a vinyl album).

Scott's album debuted at No. 2 on the album chart, selling 361,000 units, his fifth album to do so, and had his biggest week of the year so far. The album's release date of August 23 marked the first time the group was available for sale commercially and via streaming, pushing album sales to 331,000 units of its total.

There was a lot of talk about the rivalry between Carpenter and Scott throughout last weekend as “Short n' Sweet” was reportedly on its way to the No. 1 spot for the first time in a close spot behind Scott's “Days Before Rodeo.”

Carpenter released her sixth studio album, Short n' Sweet, on August 23, the same day Scott released his 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo online for the first time in honor of its 10th anniversary. The 12-track album consists of popular singles including “Don't Play” featuring Big Sean and The 1975 as well as “Mamacita” featuring Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug. Additional guest appearances include Migos, Peewee Longway, and Young Thug, plus production from Metro Boomin, Lex Luger, WondaGurl, and more.

The live release of the album was accompanied by three different sets of hats, t-shirts, and vinyl. Fans were also able to purchase the digital version, which contained unreleased bonus tracks from “Days Before Rodeo.”

Both Scott and Carpenter released additional digital versions of their albums throughout the tracking week, with Carpenter taking a similar approach with the alternative digital albums by adding a series of bonus tracks: a track called “Busy Woman”, another called “Needless to Say” and a demo version of her album's final single, “Taste”.
