Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Taste’ Music Video Hunts Down Jenna Ortega

The “graphic violence” warning that appears at the beginning of Sabrina Carpenter’s video for her new single “Taste” — from her recently released sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet” — initially makes one think that the playful revenge fantasies of the previous two videos are getting serious. But as bizarre as it sounds, the murder weapons, mutilations, and buckets of biological material that she and Jenna Ortega pour out in the Tarantino-esque clip are cartoonish. While fighting over a friend (played by their “Halloween” co-star Rohan Campbell), Ortega sets Carpenter on fire, cuts off her arm, throws her out a window, stabs her against a white picket fence, and electrocutes her — which is actually pretty funny, and Carpenter does her best. Spoiler alert: The duo ends up comparing notes on the friend as they walk away from his funeral together, sipping coffee.

Carpenter is credited as a songwriter on “Taste” alongside Julia Michaels and Amy Allen, while John Ryan and Ian Kirkpatrick are credited as producers. The tracklist for “Short n' Sweet” (out Friday) also includes the top five singles “Please Please Please” and “Espresso,” along with unreleased tracks “Sharpest Tools,” “Coincidence,” “Good Graces,” “Slim Pickins,” “Juno,” “Lie to Girls,” “Bed Chem,” “Dumb & Poetic” and “Don't Smile.”

Carpenter has recently been making waves around the album. diverseShe described the album as the “hot big sister” to “Emails.” She said, “It's my second 'big' album. It's a companion but it's not the same. When it comes to taking full creative control and becoming a full-fledged adult, I consider this a second album.”

The Sweet n' Sour Tour will kick off with a North American leg on September 23 in Columbus, Ohio, before moving on to the UK and Europe in 2025. Carpenter has already sold out 33 shows in North American venues, including dates at Madison Square Garden in New York and Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Amarai, Griff and Declan McKenna will support Carpenter on her North American leg, while Rachel Shinori will join her as a supporting act on the new round of international dates.
