Sam Neill Courtroom Drama Renewed for Third Season

Production on the third season of the court drama “The Twelve,” starring Sam Neill, has begun. The series has been commissioned by Binge, a streaming platform operated by Australian pay-TV group Foxtel.

The show centers on twelve jurors as they grapple with their duty to render a verdict while also dealing with their own personal issues. For the new season, Neil (Peaky Blinders, Jurassic World: Dominion) returns as Brett Colby SC, as the jury deliberates in a cold case murder trial.

The third season of eight one-hour episodes is written by Sarah L. Walker, Matt Cameron, Mia Lethbridge, Adele Foucault and Sam Mickle. The series will be directed by Madeline Gottlieb (“Erotic Stories,” “Latecomers”) and Mark Gough (“Jack Irish”), with Kirsty McGregor and Will Pearce cast. Producers are Hamish Lewis and Michael Brooks for Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia (WBITVPA) and Ali Henville, Ian Colley and Robert Gibson for Easy Tiger, with Sarah L. Walker, Sam Neill, Alison Hurbert-Burns and Penny Wynne as executive producers. Lana Greenhalgh, head of scripting, oversees production for Foxtel Group.

The new season is set in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, the city of Perth and surrounding areas, including the state parliament building and the ABC studios.

The second season was the largest production ever to be shown in Western Australia and was the first series to use the Western Australian production attraction incentive. Producers and location attraction agency Screenwest said the second season delivered A$9.6 million (US$6.45 million) to the state’s economy and created more than 650 jobs. They expect the third season to create a similar number of jobs and A$10 million (US$6.7 million) in benefits.

The first season received ten AACTA Award nominations and won three categories, including Best Miniseries. The first season was also the most nominated drama series at the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards, winning three TV Week Logies including Best Drama Series.

Season 5 takes over worldwide rights sales.
