As an introduction to the song “Oh Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” she shouted from behind her, and the host was brought down from the rafters to join a cadre of male dancers – but no performance was given.
To be fair, When the People's Choice Country Awards announced Shania Twain as its 2024 host, they never said the country music pioneer would perform. But Twain's opening—choreographed, dramatic, and over-the-top—certainly raised our hopes of what that opening was coming.
With the success of Twain's signature musical intro, “Oh Man! 'I Feel Like a Woman!'” sounding like a country plea, the singer was lowered from the rafters of Nashville's Opry House inside a heart-shaped silhouette to join a troupe of 10 costumed male dancers. A matching western. Twain dazzled in a white outfit, topped off with an equally flamboyant cowboy hat and as she left her place, she announced: “Let's do this!”
It was fun, but it also left us (and judging by the look on his face, Machine Gun Kelly) wishing for more. After all the hype, Twain started doing what she was hired to do, which was hosting the awards show.
Twain has been on the road for most of the summer, along with continuing her Las Vegas engagement – Come on Over – The Las Vegas Residency – at Planet Hollywood on the Strip. In July, she performed at the UK's Glastonbury Festival in the Legends Slot, opening with “That Don't Impress Me Much” and touring staples like “I'm Gonna Getcha Good!”, “Any Man of Mine, ” and “Baby, I'm Home.” She saved the most cheerful song for last, concluding with “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” Twain's Vegas residency continues through 2025.
