Hillary Clinton took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago Monday night, thanking Joe Biden for his lifetime of service.

Eight years ago, after losing the presidency to Donald Trump, Clinton now had the opportunity to endorse another woman at the top of the ticket, Vice President Kamala Harris. Clinton said in her Democratic National Convention speech that after her loss in 2016, “we refused to give up on America. Millions marched, and many ran for office.”

“We are now writing a new chapter in American history. The future is here!” she declared.

Clinton received a standing ovation from the enthusiastic Democratic National Convention crowd when she attacked Trump, saying: “Donald Trump fell asleep during his impeachment trial. When he woke up, he made his own history, becoming the first person to run for president after being convicted of 34 felonies.”

She also said of Trump: “We have him now.”

“She would never write love letters to dictators,” Clinton said of Harris.

“No matter what the polls say, we can’t give up,” Clinton continued. “We can’t get sucked into the hell of crazy conspiracy theories. We have to fight for the truth. We have to fight for Kamala as she would fight for us. You know, it still takes a village to raise a family, to heal a country, to win a campaign.”

“I know her heart and her integrity,” Clinton said of Harris. “So as president, she will always have our back. She will fight to lower costs for hard-working families. She will open the doors to good-paying jobs. And yes, she will restore abortion rights across the country.”

“Let's go win it!” she concluded.

Also speaking at the conference Monday evening were Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, actress Alexandria Osaka-Cortez, first lady Dr. Jill Biden, and President Joe Biden.

Clinton wrote about her loss to Trump in her memoir, “What Happened,” admitting that she should not have called half of Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables,” and that she should not have used a private email server, which led then-FBI Director James Comey to reopen a federal investigation that was damaging to her campaign.
