Shogun Fans were equally excited and confused when it was announced that FX’s hit historical drama had been renewed for two more seasons. Based on the acclaimed and incredibly long novel by James Clavell, the first season (which was initially developed as a limited series) adapted the entire book. Fans have wondered how the series could continue without Clavel's plot. But actor and producer Hiroyuki Sanada (who plays Lord Toranaga in ShogunThe director hopes to ease their concerns by explaining how the series can continue beyond the source material.




Sanada appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss his role in Shogun The series has received an astounding 26 Emmy nominations. During the conversation, the actor updated fans on the status of the series. ShogunNew seasons, And hinted at how the story would continue..

The actor revealed that the writers' room has just opened, and that producers Justin Marks and Rachel Condo, along with the rest of the writing team, are currently brainstorming ideas for future seasons. If Marks, Kondo, and the studio heads at FX are interested in moving forward with these ideas, Shogun Season 2 is likely to move forward quickly after getting the official green light.
