Just one year after the triple album Atom Billy Corgan and company are back with a 10-song album out August 2.
A little more than One year after the Smashing Pumpkins released their triple album AtomBilly Corgan and his label are back with another new album titled Aguri Mori Meiwhich is scheduled to arrive in two weeks on August 2nd.
Shortly after the release of the final part of AtomCorgan returned to the studio to begin work on the band's next album, using the recording strategy the Pumpkins had adopted in the early 1990s.
“In writing this new album, I became interested in the cliché that ‘you can’t go home again,’” Corgan said in a statement. “I personally found that to be true in form, but I thought, well, what if we tried anyway? Not so much by looking back sentimentally but as a way of moving forward; to see if our ways of making music from 1990 to 1996 would still inspire something revealing, in the balance of success and failure.”
As the band revealed on social media on Friday, the album will not be preceded by any singles, with Corgan opting to deliver the album directly to fans as a “full body of work” on Aug. 2. “10 songs, about 45 minutes, and then we’ll let the fans decide if we’re going to get back to that original position, if we’re going to be able to go home again with this record,” Corgan added.
The Smashing Pumpkins recorded Aguri Mori Mei Amid their busy touring schedule over the past few years, which continues throughout 2024: the band will perform shows with Green Day on that group's Saviors Tour while also making solo concerts and festival appearances along the way.
Aguri Mori Mei The album will be released digitally only on August 2, with a physical release in the future. “We just want to get the album out,” Corgan added.
