Sony Pictures Television Inks Deal with Anxo Rodríguez’s Espotlight

Sony Pictures Television (“SPT”) has entered into a multi-year co-production deal with Anxo Rodríguez’s Spanish production company Espotlight (“The Farad,” “Un Nuevo Amanecer”).

Under the agreement, which strengthens SPT's presence in Spain, SPT will develop and produce new productions in collaboration with Espotlight.

Rodriguez is a Goya Award-winning producer with a background in law and business affairs. He produced and executive produced the documentary “Paco de Lucía: The Search” and served as head of legal and business affairs on the hit Spanish series “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”) on Netflix and “Foodie Love” on HBO. He launched Espotlight in early 2020 with the goal of bringing Spanish content to international markets. Current projects in development include “Dime tu Nombre” for Prime Video.

Rodriguez also owns the talent agency Alter Ego Talent, which represents writers, directors, actors and composers.

“This deal underscores SPT’s intent to operate locally in Spain and work with the best local players,” said Matthew Justice, SPT’s executive vice president and head of UK and Europe. “Anxo and the wider Espotlight team are proving to have an incredible eye for content, working with some of the best creators in Spain, and delivering amazing shows, and we are delighted to be joining forces to produce great shows together for both local and international audiences.”

“We are very pleased to enter into a business partnership with Sony Pictures Television, as this alliance will enhance our ability to reach new clients and new audiences,” added Rodriguez. “SPT shows great ambition in the Spanish territory with a strategy that is fully aligned with ours. With this relationship, we will be able to strengthen the business strategies of our shows, capitalize on our ability to assemble great talent for upcoming projects and build a stronger mechanism for physical production.”

Earlier this year, SPT launched the football drama “La Academia,” the region’s first Spanish-language scripted drama, while in 2023, it signed a talent deal with Álvaro Morte’s 300 Pistolas.
