‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Sets Premiere Date, Series to End With Season 3


The premiere date for Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix has finally been set, with the service also announcing that the hit Korean drama has been renewed for a third and final season.

The second season is scheduled to be released on December 26, while the third season will air in 2025. The premiere date and the final season were announced in a video that can be viewed below.

Additionally, series creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk posted a message to fans that read in part, “I am happy to see the seed that was planted in creating the new Squid Game grow and bear fruit until the end of this story.”

As previously announced, Lee Jung-jae will be returning to the cast alongside fellow returning actors Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and Jung Yoo. New cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-ok, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-gyun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Sung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yoo-ri, and Won Ji-an.

The official description for season two states:

“Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and end their evil sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Ji-hoon starts in the most obvious place: searching for the man in a smart suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path to bringing down the organization turns out to be more deadly than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”

Kim Ji-yeon also serves as executive producer on “Squid Game” with Hwang. Firstman Studio is also producing for Netflix.

The first season of “Squid Game” ranks as the most-watched season on television in Netflix history. The series has received 14 Emmy nominations, including six for the series. These nominations include Hwang winning for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, Lee winning for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, and Lee You-mi winning for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
