St. Vincent brought the craving for “Flea” – the track from her first self-produced record, All newborns scream – To The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on monday.
Wearing a red light and tweed skirt suit, the rebellious rocker opened the song with a rousing refrain: “I’m like a hungry little flea/ I jump on someone’s warm body/ When you start itching and scratching and screaming/ Once I’m in, you can’t get rid of me,” before launching into the song’s chaotic chorus: “I drip you with diamonds/ I pour you with cream/ You’ll be mine forever.”
St. Vincent was released. All newborns scream In April, he collaborated with Dave Grohl and Josh Freese of the Foo Fighters, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Rachel Eckroth, Mark Juliana, Stella Mogzawa, David Ralecki, and Kate Le Bon. (Grohl plays drums and Meldal-Johnsen plays guitar on “Flea”).
In a review of her seventh album, Rolling StoneSt. Vincent's Jon Dolan described the album as “more primitive than conceptual”, and “a refreshing change among St. Vincent albums”. Dolan added: “Many of the songs bring to mind the industrial bloodletting of Nine Inch Nails, and the self-absorbed, operatic gothic grind of Tori Amos's 1998 album From Coral Girl Hotel“The annoying noise of Nirvana.”
When talking to Rolling Stone Regarding her latest work, St. Vincent said: “I was going to record a song called All newborns scream “Since I was 23,” she added, “but I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t really worthy of the title, because you have to live a lot to be worthy of the title that really says it all. It’s beauty, it’s brutality, and it’s all part of the same continuity.”
