‘Star Wars’ Y-Wing Miniature, Princess Leia Bikini Sold at Auction

A die-cast Y-Wing Starfighter piloted by Gold Leader, who helped Luke Skywalker destroy the Death Star in 1977's “Star Wars: A New Hope,” sold for $1.55 million Friday at Heritage Entertainment's July auction.

One of the highlights of the collection is Princess Leia’s gold bikini from the Jabba the Hutt scenes in the 1983 film “Return of the Jedi,” which sold for $175,000. The collection includes seven pieces from the collection of Richard Miller, chief sculptor of Industrial Light & Magic, including a bikini bra, bikini plates, hip rings, a bracelet and a necklace.

The Y-Wing ship sold Friday was one of two “hero” (meaning it was used in close-up) Y-Wing minifigures built by ILM’s visual effects team. According to Heritage Auction’s description, the basic design came from Colin Cantwell. It was based on a rough description from George Lucas. “Lucas felt the need to create distinct shapes so that the audience could tell if the ship was a ‘good guy’ or a ‘bad guy,’” the description reads.

Other items at the Heritage auction included Bob Beck’s final movie poster for “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home,” which sold for $106,250. The 1986 Paramount sci-fi film was directed by Leonard Nimoy, who also played Spock. Additionally, a piece of John Alvin’s concept art for his 1982 “Blade Runner” poster sold for $100,000.

The auction also included items such as Thor's hammer used in the filming of Marvel's “Thor: The Dark World,” which sold for $81,250; and the Mandalorian helmet, which sold for $40,000.
