The enmity between Kendrick Lamar and Drake may have lost their popularity lately, but people are still voicing their opinions on the ongoing rap controversy. In a recent interview with GQAmerican basketball player Stephen Curry expressed his support for Drake, a longtime friend of his.
Last May, Lamar called out the basketball star Curry when he accused Drake of child molestation. “Hey Curry, keep the family away/To anybody that embodies the love of children, keep the family away. They look at you too if you're standing next to them, keep the family away,” Lamar said in the song.
However, Carey stands by Drake. When asked if he wanted to comment on the beef issue, Carey said: GQ“I'm a huge Drake fan. I've been for a long time. I think you know what this means to the rap industry, but I still enjoy Drake. Definitely. Definitely.”
The feud between Lamar and Drake has been escalating since March, and has become so prevalent in pop culture that it has been referenced in Danger! The song was turned into a viral video game. The controversy began when Lamar targeted Drake with his Future and Metro Boomin medley “Like That” in March, and he also criticized J. Cole in the song. Cole responded to Lamar with an offensive song, but later apologized for it.
In April, Drake responded with “Push Ups,” a hit for The Weekend, Rick Ross, and A$AP Rocky, alongside Lamar. The feud escalated in the months that followed, and was featured in several songs, including “Meet the Grahams,” which unfolds as a series of verses directed at Drake's family members, culminating in a blatant accusation that Drake has an 11-year-old daughter who no one else claimed.
In the immediate aftermath, Drake addressed the claim that he has an unwanted daughter, writing on Instagram, “Can someone find my hidden daughter and send her to me please…these guys are a mess.”
in May, rolling stone Lamar was declared the winner of the feud, though things have continued to unfold in the month since, including the shooting of one of Drake's security guards outside his Toronto home.
Last month, Childish Gambino spoke out about the rap issue, saying in an Instagram Live video: “This year, the most fun we had was fighting. [It] It was a song about a battle, about a rap fight, and I enjoyed every moment of it. It was a lot of fun. But it was also a bit negative, in a certain light, I think.
