Original band members Bad Jug and Eric Wilson are producing the film, along with Noel's son, Jacob, and widow Troy.
It looks like the upcoming biopic Sublime has cast actor Bradley Newell, Riverdale Lead actor KJ Apa is set to play the late singer. Delivery date Apa was the first to announce the casting, then reposted the news on his Instagram account on Thursday, tagging the film's director, Justin Chon.
The decision comes two years after the biographical film was first announced, I am a legend and The hunger games: Songbirds and Snakes Poem Director Francis Lawrence Executive Producer. “Oh my gosh — we can’t believe this is finally happening and we couldn’t be more honored and excited to have the great Francis Lawrence and Chris Mundy tell our story,” Sublime said in a statement when the film was first announced. “We know Bradley’s talent and spirit will be a part of this incredible journey.”
Noel tragically died of an overdose in 1996 while the band was on tour, leading to the group’s abrupt dissolution. Sublime enjoyed a renaissance this year with Jacob taking over his father’s vocals, with the band playing their first show in nearly 30 years at Coachella in April. The group released their first single in 28 years in May. The reunion brings an end to Sublime with Rome, which featured vocalist and guitarist Rome Ramirez, with the group playing their last show in late 2024.
