Bradley Noel's son Jacob leads the band through a stunning rendition of their classic hit song in an exclusive preview of their upcoming set.
Sublime, led by Bradley Noel's son Jacob, deliver a stunning performance of their classic song “Santeria,” in a preview of their upcoming performance on Howard SternPremiering exclusively on Rolling Stone.
The performance of “Santeria” shows how much Nawell has adapted to the band since joining earlier this year. Unsurprisingly, his voice sounds a bit like his late father’s, but while singing “Santeria,” he still finds room to put his own spin on the song.
“Santeria” is one of four songs Sublime will be performing on Howard Stern gives a great presentation.which will be released tomorrow, August 14, on the SiriusXM app before airing Friday, August 16, at 7 p.m. ET on SiriusXM Howard 101. The setlist will include two more classics — “Wrong Way” and “What I Got” — as well as the band’s first new song in 28 years, “Feel Like That.”
Sublime reunited earlier this year, with the younger Nowell joining original drummer Bud Joe and guitarist Eric Wilson (Bradley Nowell was Sublime's frontman until his death in 1996 at age 28). Until recently, a version of the band known as Sublime with Rome toured and performed regularly with guitarist/vocalist Rome Ramirez and Wilson.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Earlier this year, Jacob spoke about finally taking over for his father and how he views the role. “I spent almost 11 years working hard, doing basement shows, sleeping on the floor. I’m still doing my best here, man. For me, playing with Sublime is like guard duty. I feel so lucky to be there with my uncles and so honored to be a part of music at all, man,” he said.
Sublime returned to Coachella in April, then released “Feel Like That” in May. The new song featured a sample of some of Bradley Nowell's old vocals taken from an improvised (and long-recorded) song Sublime recorded in early 1996.
