The pop star briefly released a live version of “Thank you aIMee” — which was indirectly retitled “Thank You aimEe” — Tortured Poets Section Ye's latest single has topped the charts.
No one ever Missing out on a chance to twist the symbolic knife on an old enemy, Taylor Swift celebrated the release of Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's new album Eagles 2 By briefly releasing a live version of “Thank you aIMee” with a very inaccurate title: “Thank You aimEe.” (The capital letters spell YE now, in case you were wondering.)
The performance itself was recorded at one of Swift's shows in London earlier this summer (June 22, to be exact), and it's worth noting that the musician mixed Tortured poets The track is a remix of its spiritual predecessor, 2011's “Mean.” The performance was added to a digital release of Tortured Poets Section Along with a medley of “The Prophecy” and “Long Story Short” from Swift's show in Lyon, France.
When Swift first released the extended version Excerpts Edition of Tortured Poets SectionFans were quick to pick up on the odd lettering of “Thank you aIMee,” interpreting the capital letter as a clear indication that this was an offensive track for Kim Kardashian.
And while Swift frames the song as if she's thinking of an old school bully, lines like, “There's a bronze statue of you tanned,” or even, “So you changed your name, and any real specific evidence” make it fairly clear who she was actually thinking of.
As for the new live version, Swift doesn't appear to have altered the lyrics in any particular way to make them more specific to Ye. But again, her intention was pretty clear with the use of capitalization and the timing of the release: just over a week after the release of Eagles 2 While the album was ranked second on Billboard The 200 Albums list, right after — you guessed it — Tortured Poets Section.
Interestingly, Swift only made the “Thank You aimEe”/”Mean” mashup available for a few hours, as she removed it just before midnight on Thursday, August 15. That means it likely won’t see more streams. Tortured Poets Section So much so that the album holds the No. 1 spot in its 17th week — giving Swift's close friend Post Malone a fighting chance at the top.
