Taylor Swift gets last The pop star closed out the massive VMAs by winning Video of the Year for her song “Fortnight.” During her speech, Swift thanked boyfriend Travis Kelce for being her biggest supporter and making everything feel like “magic.”
“This video looks so sad when you watch it, but it was actually the most fun video ever,” she said. “One thing I’ll always remember is that when I would finish a video, and I’d say ‘cut,’ and we’d finish that video, I would always hear someone cheering from the other side of the studio where we were filming, and that person was my friend, Travis.”
“Everything this man touches turns into happiness, joy and magic, so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot,” she said of Kelsey.
Earlier in her speech, Swift thanked her video production partners, some of whom she invited on stage. She also thanked those involved in the video's production, including Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles.
“To my fans, I always try to find a way to say thank you for making my life what it is. And for making the Eras Tour what it has become,” Swift said. “For making Tortured Poets Section “What happened now. This is all you did and voted for for this award.”
Swift concluded her speech by encouraging her fans and viewers to register to vote, just one day after endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris after her debate with former President Donald Trump.
This is Swift's third consecutive win for Video of the Year after winning the award for Everything is fine: the short film in 2022 and “Anti-Hero” last year. She also won in this category in 2019 for “You Need to Calm Down” and in 2015 for “Bad Blood” with Kendrick Lamar.
Swift also won Artist of the Year and Best Pop Song, while “Fortnite” won Best Collaboration, Song of the Summer, Best Direction, and Best Editing.
Earlier in the night, as she and Malone accepted the award for Best Collaboration, Swift shared a moment to remember the lives lost in 9/11, thanking Malone for being “ridiculously talented” and “so polite.”
“Taylor is definitely one of the kindest, most talented people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She puts so much effort, care and love into everything she does, from the music video,” Malone says. “I watched her strapped to the operating table and she was directing the music video from there. It was so amazing.”
Swift’s self-directed “Two Weeks” opens in black and white with Swift tied to a bed frame… on the side of a mental institution wall. Swift pops a pill, walks out of the hospital, and meets herself. She even transforms into Post Malone, at least judging by the tattoos that cover his body, as the clip plays. The film ends, fittingly, in the rain, with Swift holding hands with Post Malone on top of a phone booth.
Other nominees for Video of the Year were Ariana Grande's “We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” Billie Eilish's “Lunch,” Doja Cat's “Paint the Town Red,” Eminem's “Houdini” and Sza's “Snooze.”
