‘Ted Lasso’ Star’s ‘A Christmas Carol (ish)’ Sets West End Run

The star of Ted Lasso comedy Mr. Swallow is set to bring his unique take on a holiday classic to London’s West End this winter. Written and starring two-time Emmy-nominated actor Mohamed, “A Christmas Carol(ish)” will be screened at @sohoplace from November 16 to December 31.

The production, which follows a successful run at the Soho Theatre in 2022, offers a comedic twist on Dickens’ story. In this version, Santa cancels Christmas on Christmas Eve, prompting three ghosts to visit the venue to convince him to change his mind. With only a few hours left and only one working reindeer, the challenge begins to deliver everything on time.

Joining Mohammed in the cast are Kieran Hodgson (Two Doors Down) and David Elms (Borderline), with Martha Howe Douglas (Ghosts) making her debut with the company.

The creative team includes director Matt Beauver, Tony and Olivier Award-nominated set and costume designer Fly Davis, lighting designer Richard Howell, and choreographer Emily Holt. Oliver Birch provides the music, with Freddie Tapner as musical supervisor and Honor Halford MacLeod as musical director. The ensemble will include members of the London Musical Theatre Orchestra. Owen Donovan is producing for Berk's Nest.

The character of Mr Sulu gained popularity through appearances on Channel 4's 'Cats Does Countdown' and Prime Video's 'Backstage With Katherine Ryan'. Mr Sulu toured the country to a sold-out capacity in 2023 with 'The Very Best And Worst Of Mr. Swallow' and performed at Duke of York's in the West End. He will return next year with 'Show Pony' – his biggest live tour to date. Mohammed is also known for his appearances on Channel 4's game show 'Taskmaster'.

“Putting on a full-fledged singing and dancing show like this was a dream come true and I can’t wait for everyone to see the show at Soho Theatre and be amazed by its sheer scale and insanity,” said Mohammed.

Nick Burns from @sohoplace described the show as “clever, inventive, funny, sometimes silly but always entertaining”, adding: “Nick Mohammed and his fantastic comedy team will bring you an unforgettable evening of laughter to liven up the coldest winter days.”

“It’s an honor to be working with @sohoplace, our hilarious crew and incredible creative team on this unique novel, and we’re excited for fans and newcomers alike to see Mr. Solo adapt this beloved, festive classic,” Donovan added.
