exit Robert Sanders She already has plans to produce a sequel to the reimagined comic book movie this year, The crowBut are we likely to see them one day? Speaking to Variety recently, the director revealed that he has some big ideas for what could happen. The Crow 2 Sanders seems to be hoping that one day he can use some of the “great” ideas that weren't used in the first round.
“It's hard because it was a love story between two people. There's a lot of things that I came up with and thought about that were ideas within some of the script drafts, or some elements that I was putting together that were kind of cool, but I felt like they weren't ready yet. As far as his journey, I love the idea of being able to move like Nightcrawler between the other world and this world, and how people are pulled between them, and the growing power of one side or the other – it's cool.”
Sanders even revealed “talks” about more. The crow Films of this type have already been made. But will these talks continue in light of the box office receipts and critical reactions to his first work?
“There’s been talk about it, and I’m kind of at a loss right now… I’ve done everything I can creatively. But I’m sure after a couple of weeks of sitting around doing nothing and the movie’s been out of my mind for a while, I’ll start to feel like doing something and I’ll start to think, ‘Maybe it’s…’ But we’ll see. If we’re lucky enough to have those conversations, that would be great. And I’m sure the team behind this can come up with something incredible for the next chapter.”
The Crow struggled badly to achieve success at the box office.
As any realistic (and perhaps cynical) movie fan will tell you: it's all about the box office. The crow The film struggled financially. Initially projected to gross between $6 million and $9 million, it only made $4.6 million in its opening weekend. All of this suggests that Sanders' ideas for a sequel will not materialize.
Critics weren't kind to the film either, with Julian Roman of MovieWeb declaring the reimagining “far less than the classic original.”
“However, this is still a poor adaptation of James O’Barr’s comics. Fans who compare it to Brandon Lee (may he rest in peace) and Alex Proyas’ 1994 masterpiece will be sorely disappointed. It’s by no means inferior. As for where it stands compared to the other three terrible incarnations, that’s a discussion this reviewer happily chooses not to enter.”
Directed by Rupert Sanders from a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, The crow The film stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, aka The Crow, FKA Twigs as Shelley Webster, Isabella Wei as Zadie, Danny Huston, Laura Byrne, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger. The Crow is based on the 1989 comics created by James O'Barr. You can check out the official synopsis for the reimagining below:
“Soulmates Erik Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelley Webster (F.K.A. Twigg) are brutally murdered when the demons of their dark past haunt them.
