The Crow Reviews Have Been Worse Than Expected

The ban has been lifted and the first reactions to this year's reimagining of the beloved gothic comic book movie have been revealed. The crow I've arrived. So, what? Unfortunately for a film that was already facing so much opposition, critics seemed unwilling to give the film a break and made things worse for it. The crowThe film's box office chances are very low, as it debuted with a 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of writing). While there's still time for that to change—before the sixteenth review was published, the film was at 0%—early reviews largely agree that The Crow is destined to remain mediocre.

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter leads the wave of negative reviews, calling the film: “Slow, overly self-serious depression.” Benjamin Lee of The Guardian takes this up a step further, suggesting that the film “It's a complete disaster, disjointed, incoherently planned and sloppily made, destined to join the annals of the worst and most absurd remakes ever made.”

The same comments appear over and over again throughout the first 15 reviews. From pointing out an incoherent plot, to criticizing the film for replacing the original's “painful feeling” with over-the-top gore, to the burning question of why the world needs a new version of the film. The Crow is scheduled to hit theaters on August 23.

Based on the 1989 comic book created by James O'Barr, the story revolves around The crow The film follows a young man named Eric, who is forced to watch his fiancée Shelly being murdered by a gang of street thugs after their car breaks down. Eric is then shot and later dies in the hospital. But he is soon brought back to life by a mysterious crow and seeks revenge on the killers, hunting them down and killing them while dealing with the loss of Shelly.
