‘The Greatest Showman’ Stage Musical in Development at Disney


The Greatest Showman is finally coming to the big screen, thanks to Disney.

In an unexpected twist, Disney at D23 offered a slew of upcoming musicals including “Frozen” showtimes and news of a musical called “Hercules” that will make its West End debut. After a series of electrifying performances from the casts of “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast” (to name a few), the famous howl from the 2017 musical resounded throughout the arena… ladies and gentlemen, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for.

The audience was then surprised by a performance of “The Greatest Show” from “The Greatest Showman.” Ryan Vasquez, who starred in “The Notebook” on Broadway, dressed as Jackman’s original role as P.T. Barnum and accompanied four other cast members on stage under the banner “The Greatest Showman: The New Musical.”

Shortly after the show, D23 host Yvette Nicole Brown said the show was currently in development for a stage musical adaptation. Timing and location remain a mystery.

With nine iconic songs written by Academy Award-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, this show will forever remain in the annals of musical theater.

Since its release, “The Greatest Showman” has captivated audiences with its vibrant story and powerful performances. The film has become a cultural phenomenon, grossing over $435 million worldwide and gaining a loyal fan base. The film’s soundtrack, featuring hits like “This Is Me,” “A Million Dreams,” and the aforementioned “Greatest Show,” became an instant classic, topping best-selling movie charts and winning numerous awards. The film also stars Zac Efron and Michelle Williams.
