‘The Late Show,’ ‘The Daily Show’ Prepare for Democratic Convention

CBS’s “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” are set to head to Chicago for a week of shows during next week’s Democratic National Convention. Among the shows to be shown: a biopic of Kamala Harris produced by “The Daily Show” staff and a “Late Show” guest list that includes Hillary Rodham Clinton and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The two shows’ plans for the Democratic National Convention pale in comparison to what we were eventually able to do last month during the Republican National Convention. In particular, “The Daily Show” had planned to air that week from Milwaukee, but then the attempted assassination of Donald Trump changed those plans. Instead, “The Daily Show” canceled its Monday broadcast that week and remained in its usual New York City home for the rest of the week.

This time, The Daily Show's coverage of “Frequency 2024” will include four nights at the Athenaeum think tank in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.

Harris' biopic is the latest in a popular series of short films about key leaders; the biopics even earned The Daily Show an Emmy nomination this year for “The Daily Showgraphy of Vivek Ramaswamy: Enter the Rama Verse,” competing in the Outstanding Picture Editing for a Variety Program (Part).

Also next week, The Daily Show will host correspondent Jordan Klepper on a tour of Chicago with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. The show promises to film more stories throughout the week on the floor of the Democratic National Convention with The Daily Show’s news team.

As for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” it is scheduled to air live every night at 11:35 p.m. ET (delayed on the West Coast) from Monday, August 19 through Thursday, August 22, from the Auditorium Theater in downtown Chicago, right next to Grant Park.

The guest list is subject to change, but for now, the Monday, Aug. 19 episode is scheduled to feature former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus; the Tuesday, Aug. 20 episode will feature Speaker of the House Emeritus Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries; and the Wednesday, Aug. 21 episode will feature Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, with a performance by Chicago rapper Chance the Rapper. No guests have been announced yet for the Thursday, Aug. 22 episode.
