Additionally, critics continued to praise the series, cementing Amazon’s reported $1 billion investment as a smart and worthwhile one. While much of the first season was devoted to introducing audiences to this version of Tolkien’s world, leading to many complaints about the slow pace of the plot, the second season opened with a horrific flashback showing Sauron’s return to Middle-earth, immediately picking up several story lines, with the promise of more to come.
In addition to the complete first season, the first three episodes of season two are now available on Prime Video. New episodes will be released weekly throughout September, with the season finale premiering on October 3.
