‘The Traitors’ U.K. Sets Celebrity Edition, Season 4 on BBC

Fans of the hit British series “Traitors” are in for a treat today, as the BBC has confirmed a fourth season of the series, as well as a special celebrity edition.

The news, revealed at the Edinburgh TV Festival today, comes ahead of the show's third season, which has already been filmed in the Scottish Highlands.

No cast or air date has been confirmed yet for the popular nine-part series or Season 4, which will consist of 12 episodes.

The UK version of the psychological game show is hosted by Claudia Winkleman and is produced by Studio Lambert, part of All3Media.

Kalpna Patel Knight, BBC Head of Entertainment, said: “The Traitors has established itself as one of the most important series not to be missed this year and the news of a fourth series, alongside a brand new BBC celebrity series, takes the series to a whole new level. It will be exciting for our audiences once again to see who can outwit, outplay and outlast us. Let the brain games begin!”

“We are thrilled to be inviting some celebrities to our castle to play the game,” added Mike Cotton, Creative Director of Unscripted at Studio Lambert and Executive Producer of “The Traitors.” “Seeing famous faces walking around the Round Table or wearing the infamous green cloaks will be unmissable on television, and what a double treat for fans with [Season] 4 is also confirmed. There's plenty of exciting betrayal and deception yet to come from the highlands… Claudia will have to pack some extra knitwear.

The accompanying podcast, “Traitors: No Cover,” is also set to unveil 12 new episodes from the podcast agency Listen, hosted by comedian Ed Gamble.

The series “Traitors” was originally produced in the Netherlands by IDTV. All3Media represents the worldwide rights for the format and tape sales.

During their Edinburgh seminar, the BBC also announced a new comedy series with Dawn French called Can You Keep a Secret? and a new two-part documentary, Signs for Life, produced by Rogan, starring Rose Aisling Ellis, in which Aisling Ellis guides a group of elderly people through learning British Sign Language.

Can You Keep a Secret stars French as a hard-line grandmother who becomes involved in an insurance scam. The film is written and produced by Simon Mayhew Archer (This Country) and stars Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner).

Other news to emerge from the symposium is that the BBC's hit dance show Strictly Come Dancing will be broadcast live using British Sign Language for the first time in its 20-year history. The show already features audio description and subtitles.

Both the documentary directed by Aisling Ellis and the addition of the British Sign Language version of Strictly are part of the BBC's British Sign Language season next year, which aims to celebrate sign language.
