Warning: This article contains major spoilers for House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones.game of thrones The show may not have invented the gruesome character death, but it seems to have perfected it. From Sean Bean’s Ned Stark’s untimely death in season one to the Red Wedding in season three, the show has turned character killing into an art form, and moments that have defined the series. The show’s producers also started a tradition that continues now with the prequel. Dragon House:Death call. According to the actors from both series, when their time on the show was up, and they were killed off, they received a call from the producers with the bad news. Nobody wants to take that call.
In an interview with Variety, actor Harry Collett, who plays Jace, Queen Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) eldest son, spoke about the “death call” and how anxious it is for the cast. He explained why the show's producers call in actors. “You get what's called a 'death call,' so you don't have to do it while reading the script in front of everyone, which I think is really nice,” He said.
Colette hasn't gotten that call yet (presumably), but he knows it's likely coming in season 3. According to the sequence of events in George R.R. Martin's novel fire and bloodThe Battle of the Throat is about to begin, as Queen Rhaenyra attempts to take over King's Landing. The massive sea battle ends with the deaths of Jace and his dragon Vermax, so Collette's time on the show may be short. The show has occasionally deviated from the books, so there's still hope for Jace and Vermax. Collette described having a discussion with executive producer Ryan Condal when he thought his character would die in a season 2 episode.
“I said to Ryan, ‘I thought this was my time.’ And he said, ‘Dude, I was going to call you!’… So I was nervous for no reason, but I’m so grateful that I was able to hold out for another full season, and if I die, I die — I’m grateful to be in it anyway.”
Phones on Dragon House The set is likely to burn down, with characters dying frequently and brutally. Even child actors have not been spared, and few have managed to escape its reach. However, one actor may have avoided it in a unique way. Eve Best, who played Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, saw her character die in episode 4 of season 2, in an epic dragon battle that many are calling one of the best episodes of the series to date. Best said she was well aware that her character would die prematurely, as her initial contract to join the show was only for two seasons, so she knew when she would be exiting the show.
Even the Mother of Dragons received a “death call.”
by the time game of thrones By the end of the season, it seemed like most of the cast had received a “death call,” including Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen. Daenerys Targaryen died in the series finale, after being stabbed to death by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) before she could take the Iron Throne. In a roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter , Daenerys Targaryen discussed the “death call” tradition and revealed that an actor who is doomed to die often gets a free dinner.
“On the show, you have a phone call… So you get a call from David[Benioff]and Dan[Weiss]who are the creators of the show, and everyone starts really dreading that phone call. Because
You're like, “Oh my God, they want to take me out to dinner.” So you know that's the kiss of death.
. literally.”
Clark said the “death call” became such a common occurrence that producers had to introduce conversations so they wouldn't get killed off, and they just wanted to discuss the show or take someone out to dinner.
