Tom Cruise Receives Prestigious Honor From France’s Culture Minister

American actor Tom Cruise, who is currently filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning 2” in Europe, was honored with the Legion of Honor by French Culture Minister Rachida Dati in Paris on July 26.

Hours before the Olympics opening ceremony, Cruz received one of France's highest honors, following in the footsteps of famous artists, actors and filmmakers such as Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese and Clint Eastwood who have also received the Legion of Honor.

Dati, who was appointed culture minister by French President Emmanuel Macron in January, posted a photo of herself sitting with Cruz as he proudly held up his medal.

The magazine praised Cruise for his passionate advocacy of cinema, which “inspires all fans of the big screen.” Dati added that his filming of “Mission: Impossible” in Paris in 2017 “brilliantly highlighted Paris.”

The ceremony has been kept under wraps and Cruz has yet to comment on it. While France is hosting the Olympic Games this summer, the country is currently experiencing some political turmoil following early parliamentary elections.

Although Cruz was not pictured at the opening ceremony, he may have been in attendance alongside a host of stars, including Shaun White, Nina Dobrev, Lindsey Vonn, Serena Williams, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Snoop Dogg, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Tayla, Queen Latifah, and Rebel Wilson.
