Tom Sizemore’s ‘American Trash’ Acquired by Deep C Digital

Deep C Digital has acquired the North American rights to “American Trash,” which features one of the last performances by the late actor Tom Sizemore. The “Saving Private Ryan” actor died in 2023, and 18 films are in various stages of post-production after that.

“American Trash” marks the directorial debut of Robert LaSardo, known for his roles in “Nip/Tuck” and “The Mule,” who co-stars and directs from a screenplay he wrote. The cast also includes Costas Mandylor (“Picket Fences,” “Saw”), Lorelei Linklater (“Boyhood,” “Bomb City”) and Gigi Joosten (“Night of the Missing”).

The film follows Melissa (Lassardo), a veteran suffering from PTSD, who finds companionship with Melissa (Linklater), an environmental activist. Their relationship turns to friendship when a tragic event occurs, drawing Detective Anderson (Mandylor) into the investigation. Meanwhile, Melissa's sister Mandy (Justine) continues her own investigation alongside Melissa. Sizemore plays Detective Kelly.

“I aimed to create a film that would embody my deep affection for Los Angeles, a city I have loved over the years,” LaSardo said. “I felt that the city that was once a beacon of sun and dreams was deteriorating into something harsh and dangerous. I wanted to tell a story that would highlight this change and bring attention to the realities outside of Hollywood.”

“I am so proud of the film Robert has made for his directorial debut,” added Josh Weber, who produced the film with LaSardo. “He has faced every challenge with such grace, and I am excited to see the world experience it through his lens.”

The deal was negotiated by John Kim, CEO of Deep C Digital and Webber Films, on behalf of the production.

The film is scheduled to be released on digital and cable platforms on September 10.
